Louis Proyect: The Unrepentant Marxist

The Future of this Blog

Filed under: Uncategorized — louisproyect @ 6:05 pm

Update: this site has now returned to its free version at https://louisproyect.wordpress.com … i do not know how much longer https://louisproyect.org will redirect to this new address. The old address went defunct on June 7. So if you had troubles connecting the last couple, apologies. We had been told the changeover would happen gracefully. C’est la vie.

Now that this is no longer a Premium site, perhaps certain features will no longer work. I’ll monitor the Comments section for reports of problems.

Les 6/9/22

Just to let readers of Lou’s Blog know: Lou made arrangements for WordPress to host this site as a Premium blog up till May 2022.

After that time, Unrepentant Marxist will be available, for all time according to WordPress.com, at the following address https://louisproyect.wordpress.com/, while the address you normally use, https://louisproyect.org will no longer function. From now until May 2022 both links will work equally well. After May 2022, whatever Premium features Lou used in his blog posts will not be available. I will try to sort out if such Premium features are in use.

1. i see some of the Vimeo videos Lou included in his blog are not showing up at Vimeo any more. i will have to look into this disappearance.

2. i cleared out the queue of comments going back to last August. I apologize for the delay, particularly to those who wanted to pay their respects to Lou. I didn’t realize comments were moderated for those that have not posted here before.

many of the comments i approved. some i just deleted. i do not have time to sort through peoples’ anger and frustration with Lou long enough to decide if a comment is worth approving. in the future if comments clearly (and quickly) add something to an old discussion i will approve them. otherwise, its probably time, now that Lou is gone, to find another venue for your thoughts on his shortcomings as you see them.

  3. Any idea why the Vimeo videos that Louis made don’t work on the site anymore?

  4. I appreciate your willingness to manage this.

As a more than occasional reader of Louis’s posts during these trying times, I’d feel a bit lost without being able to tune into hefty doses of sanity. Bill in VA

  6. Thank you Les Schaffer for the update and for maintaining and preserving Louis’s blog postings.

If financial help is needed in your effort to keep these postings available to the readers, please let us know (announce on Marxmail or here). We the readers are not rich or fully (or at all) employed in a lot of cases, but there are lots of us and we would gladly pitch in according to our ability, to help with the need.

  7. It is one o’clock in the morning here in Britain, and about fifteen minutes ago I read that Louis Proyect is dead. I am shocked and saddened.

I discovered this blog in 2018 or 2019. It was something I turned to occasionally when I wanted something different and diverting to read. It was a pleasure to read Louis’s articles. I agreed with much of what he wrote.

I had not looked at this blog for a few months, and it suddenly occurred to me this evening that I would like to read what Louis had to say about recent events in the world. Then I found, to my dismay, that he is no longer with us. He was a good’un. He was on the right side. I, man in Britain in his early 60’s, have lost a comrade. I will miss his contributions.

  9. Fascinating if comments can still be left here. I wonder how often people will continue to come to this site. What I am suggesting if you have not figured it out by now is that this page be used as place to discuss what is going on in the world, particularily in the Ukraine. I will Czech back in a few days to see if anyone thinks that my idea is sacreligous. On one hand I think that Louis would be pleased that his site would still be used to discuss current events. On the other hand he is not here to moderate the comments. On the other hand if to much truth starts getting displayed here, and it gets noticed by to many people I guess one should not be surprised in the site comes under some sort of attack designed to disrupt the flow of accurate thoughts. In addition one might also add would such discussions have anything more than entertianment value considered how far along we are in the unfolding disasters of climate change and resource depletion.

  10. It appears to me that there have been two motives driving anti government protesters in Iran. One is a desire for a better economic life. The other is desire for less mysoginistic government policies. Are the mysoginistic policies of the Iranian government sufficient to justify the overthrow of this government? I myself do not support an overthrow of the current Iranian government even though I am a secular Unitarian Universalist buddhist.
As far as the economic issues go the Iranian people might very well be better off if they overthrow their government and join the western dominated global order.
But I myself do not care about that. Because, the world global order is based upon the economic expoitation of human beings and the unsustainable use of the world’s resources. An implication of that truth is that whatever gains the Iranian people might make by becoming allies with the west will come at the expense of some other people.

  11. A small additional comment is that Iran needs to convince Pakistan and Egypt to fight for the Palestinian people.

  12. My hat off to Brian Berletic. He is a former Marine that has seen the light. One thing puzzels me though. It is so damned easy to see the light why I have to ask myself, why in the hell is Brian essentially one in a million. I have decided that all those Marines who do not see the world as Brian or even Scott Ritter for that matter are simply not interested in doing what a real true American would do. Therefore their minds are closed to the light.
