Ben Norton, master of political metamorphosis, in performance as Gregor Samsa in Franz Kafka’s “Metamorphosis”

  1. Los políticos, después de las elecciones sufren metamorfosis en todos lados. Por no decir que mienten.

  2. literatoluisrodriguez ,

Yes, indeed, politicians do morph into something uglier once ‘elected’ (if I understand you correctly). Ben Norton got ‘elected’ to be a professional ‘liberal’. So, he morphed into an asshole. (Crickets, the original wording of Kafka’s story, have dignity, and I would not insult them by likening them to a human asshole.) (I also apologize to the ‘asshole’, which actually is a vital organ in the human anatomy, without which we would die.)

Not sure if this another indicative symptom of the reactionary era we’re stumbling through, or just something in the water. I’ve witnessed this kind of metamorphosis many times, when one day various editors or writers were full of praise for my submissions for publication, and the next day not an email would be returned. “What happened?” I would wonder. “What offense did I commit?” I would doubt, not knowing if any I had done so without meaning to or even knowing I had committed an offense!

Only to find that the formerly-full-of-praise editors/writers had turned into reactionary assholes supporting reactionary regimes.

Lesson learned: Self-doubt, in more cases than none, is the wrong approach. Trust your gut that the dude (or the female dude) has gone and done a 180 degree morphing into an asshole. (with all due apologies to the anatomical asshole)
