  1. I have to admit Lou that at first this phenom of Baathist/Putin boot lickers I considered overblown on your part. But now even grade school chums on Facebook have proved me wrong & you right. In the left of center American polity it’s shocking how many Putin fans there are & they are universally sympathetic to Assad. The irony is this population is also universally pro Palestinian yet they’re apparently ignorant to the pact Putin just made with the IDF?

    It’s freakin’ appalling.

  4. Karl, I would say that most are aware of the deal with Netanyahu but they interpret that as Israel being brought to heel rather than being part of a geopolitical bloc that includes the USA and Iran to one extent or the other. What do they say? Denial is not just a river in Egypt.

  5. Even Greenwald, who recently called Russia’s adventure in Syria an “imperialistic intervention”, took a bunch of flack from his commentors for daring to besmirch Putin’s good intentions: https://theintercept.com/2015/09/30/u-s-bombs-somehow-keep-falling-in-the-places-where-obama-boasts-he-ended-wars/

  6. The ass-licking Putin sycophant Mike Whitney has the following gem in the current Counterpunch:

On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he’d had enough of Washington’s song-and-dance and was planning to bring a little Russian justice to the terrorist militias that had killed 225,000 Syrians and ripped the country to shreds. In language that could not be more explicit, Putin said to the General Assembly: “We can no longer tolerate the currents state of affairs in the world”. Less than 48 hours later, Russian bombers were raining down precision-guided munitions on terrorist strongholds across western Syria sending the jihadi vermin scrambling for cover.

That’s how you fight terrorism if you’re serious about it. Bravo, Putin.

The article. BTW, is entitled “Putin’s Lightning War in Syria.” “Lightning war,” of course, is the English translation of blitzkrieg. Need one say more?

  7. Killer shot 6-8 bullets, depending on witnesses, 6 cases found and 4 bullets got into Nemtsov’s body. There were no attempts of shooting Nemtsov’s girlfriend, only close witness of that scene. Killer got into car going, and according to some witnesses, in that car were 4 (??) persons (with killer) which were gone from crime scene (and the car wasn’t white like said in first statements and news reports about that murder). In the moment of Nemtsov’s murder there was driver of snow-plowing car slowly driving near the Nemtsov and girl, he stops shortly then drives away (??).
