Greek fascists on the crisis in Ukraine

Our anti-imperialist allies?

Golden Dawn statement:

Ukraine is Washington’s pretext for a conflict with Russia. The threat of conflict is evident from the flood of propaganda in the Zionist media. Putin is demonized daily as Saddam Hussein and Qaddafi were earlier, while known Zionist newspapers like the Washington Post and New York Times, present daily ‘evidence’ Russian troops are ready to invade Ukraine. The only things missing are the weapons of mass destruction in order to have a complete repeat.

The events in Ukraine demonstrate clearly that American imperialism has launched a strategy, the first unsuccessful steps which were Syria and Iran, weakening and elimination of Russia as a Great Power. Russia is the most serious obstacle to the American imperialism to assert its hegemony in the Middle East, East Mediterranean, and Eurasia.

  1. Cute. It’s like Germany in the 30s: the fascist bastards just steal our stuff to look good.

(Mind you: the quality of the analysis suggests who they stole it from . . . .)

  2. […] to poke the hornet’s nest with a stick, I posted that Golden Dawn “anti-imperiaist” statement on Moon of Alabama–one of the higher profile Red-Brown websites. Look at the homophobia and […]

  3. This could have come straight off the UK Stop the War Coalition’s website. In fact it probably did. But the reason the neo-Nazis are able to take verbatim statements from the `counter-hegemonic’ neo-Stalinists and use them as their own is because they share a perspective. Fascists dislike a unified imperialism for the reasons Lenin said they would: it makes too obvious a target for socialist revolution whilst the neo-Stalinists are welcoming with open arms the disintegration of US hegemony for the same reasons. One wants to smash revolution the other wants to avoid it at all costs. Of course the fascists are the correct ones. The end of American-sponsored globalisation and imperialist Cold War unity will not spell the beginning of a new period of world peace based on power balancing between five or six major powers over the heads of the seven billion (what a disgusting perspective even if it was possible). No it will mark the arrival of a New Dark Ages in which the likes of Golden Dawn will thrive. It will indeed be a Golden Dawn for thieves and gangsters and war lords. Of course tyrants like Putin are admired by both sets of `neos’to such an extent that maybe we should stop callling this Red-Brown alliance and simply recategorise the neo-Stalinists as fascists. No I’m kidding of course but they do both drink from the self-serving well of petit bourgeois cynicism.

For the neo-Stalinist sects long gone is the perspective of world revolution and the slogan workers of the world unite is pittied like a dying spinster aunt and mouthed only, if ever, ironically and whilst the oppose vehemently the democratic aspirations of oppressed nations like Syria and Ukraine eschewing self-determination as a relic of history they are, and this it truely ironic, the absolute champions of imperialist self-determination. Forward to inter-imperialist rivalry, back to multi-polarity, workers of the world forget it.

  5. Bill, would you care to explicate what these videos represent? It appears to be Ukrainian tanks shooting at a protester. What does this have to do with Golden Dawn?

  6. Too many people on the American “left” tend to muse excitedly about the danger of fascism, unlikely as such here as long as the working class are as weak and complaisant as they are now. This habit among the U.S. pseudo-left can even lead to a kind of false security, as all the warnings of imminent fascism carry the possibly consolatory subtext that, as long as there’s no Fuehrer and no SA/SS (etc.), there is somehow “still time” to elect more “progressives” and save the day.

Nevertheless, these pictures and the accompanying story show that under the right circumstances workers in crisis can as easily go brown today as they could in the twentieth century. Even if this isn’t quite what it looks like (historical repetition being what it is), it is still a damned timely reminder.
