Levon Helm, RIP

Filed under: obituary — louisproyect @ 1:15 pm

Everybody knows how great a musician he was and you can see Band clips today in his honor all across the blogosphere. But Levon Helm was also a damned good character actor as this scene from “The Shooter” should illustrate:

  1. Lou thank you for posting this. I was a great fan of The Band. The Last Waltz was one of the greatest concert films ever produced. They had such a unique sound due in part to the talents of Levon Helm and Robbie Robertson. RIP Levon. You left the world with your wonderful tunes that will play on.

  2. Counter Punch published a nice article on Levon Helm today:

He was a very engaging person.

  3. Louis,

Did you watch Shooter? I thought that it was fairly critical of the political system for a mainstream film. Unfortunately, the conclusion glorified individual action.

  4. I loved “The Shooter”. I am a huge Mark Wahlberg fan.

  5. Not forgetting “The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada”, in which Levon Helm played a cameo role, as a blind man living alone in the desert. He pops up at the end of this short trailer:-
