  1. This was very interesting to watch and listen to. This artist is obviously a very thoughtful and well-informed man, and if he is a “conscientious liberal,” I am happy to say that I am one, too — no longer a Marxist myself. It was fascinating to hear Louis make reference to his father (whom I knew) and to my family and to me! I remember parties in my home with blacks and whites dancing together, but I can’t say for sure that there were any actual interracial relationships that had a sexual aspect to them. The presence of black people in my home seemed very normal to me. At my bar mitzvah reception, a local woman criticized my mother for inviting blacks, but you can be sure my mother put her in her place!
