I heard the ambassador left over this; I also heard it was like the storming of Stasi HQ in 1989; files thrown out of windows, etc. What I am afraid of is another Israeli-Egyptian war and the possiblity of another dictatorship arising in Egypt in the aftermath; too many people struggled too hard and long for it to go back to another Mubarak.
Yes indeed, like the events around the collapse of East Germany etc. The danger of dictatorship is already here – they are talking about special military kangaroo courts for those who stormed the Israeli embassy.
The US and Israeli response has been predictable, the reimposition of dictatorial controls. Today, the Egyptian military announced that it would use live ammunition of anyone attempting to storm the embassy again. On balance, the outcome of the protest looks to be positive, as the military is being exposed as a client of the US.
