  3. What “American Leftist” is saying is that the reformist, pro-capitalist CGT bureaucracy, like trade union bureaucrats everywhere, is an obstacle to expanding the struggle into an ongoing greve generale to bring down the government.

  4. yes, Roy, as the person responsible for American Leftist, you have it right

if you look at the article linked on my site about the riot in Lyon, it also includes some general reportage at the end to the effect that the union leadership had already negotatied concessions for the age increase for receiving benefits and just wanted some additional ones

  5. ["the union leadership had already negotatied concessions for the age increase for receiving benefits"]

That’s what’s so amazing about the US Ruling Classes anti-union zealotry. They’re so profoundly greedy that they never seemed to quite fathom how the trade union bureaucracy, if fostered as a partner, could be the permanent police of the workers. They just figure the prols are so duped in America, with a propaganda system so sophisticated that even Goebells would have marvelled, that they can dispense with even that small cut to the labor aristocracy so they can even stomp them in the groin while they’re down.

In the end, however, such abject hubris certainly portends future social uphevals they never bargained for.

    Heads Will Roll!
